Lost and Found

Please note changes to the lost and found procedures.  These procedures are in place to mitigate spread of the coronavirus and will be in place until further notice. 

Take the action below based on where you think you lost the item.

  • Airplane - contact your airline

  • Airport or TSA checkpoint

    • Please complete the Lost Item Report.  If a found item matches your Lost Item Report, we will notify you.
    • Essential items can be picked up by appointment only.  Essential items include:  cell phones, laptops/tablets, CPAP machines, medication, wallets/IDs, and keys.  Call 515-256-5100 on Mondays and Thursdays between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to set up an appointment.  
    • Other items are not able to be picked up at this time.  If you filed a Lost Item Report and you were notified that we have your item, your item will be held under your name for you to pick up at a later time.  
  • Rental car - contact the rental car company

Des Moines Airport Authority Lost and Found Policy

The Des Moines Airport Authority retains items that have been lost in the public areas of the terminal, as well as items left at the Transportation Security Administration or TSA checkpoint. Items that have been turned in to the Des Moines Airport Authority Lost and Found are kept for 30 days with these exceptions

  • All food/beverage items will be disposed of immediately.
  • Items that have a foul odor will be disposed of immediately.
  • Passports will be mailed to the U.S. Department of State in Sterling, VA, after seven (7) business days.
  • Social Security cards will be mailed to the Social Security Department in Baltimore, MD, after seven (7) business days.

Please note:  The Des Moines Airport Authority is not responsible for charges incurred by shipping lost items to the rightful owner. 

The Des Moines Airport Authority office is located on the second level of the main terminal (pre-TSA checkpoint) in Room 207.   Lost and Found is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
